Why AI visibility matters for your website

More people ask AI tools for recommendations instead of searching, and those tools can only use sites they can reach and read.
One vendor study found that 27% of 2,870 sites accidentally block at least one major AI crawler (LightSite). Even big, well-known websites score low: ranking well on Google doesn’t mean AI agents can read and understand you.

How your AI readiness score is calculated

We check your site against seven categories and give it a score out of 100. The checks that matter most, like whether AI tools can find and read your site, carry the most points. Your final score also comes with a letter grade.

For every check, we explain what's going on and how to fix it. Start with the area where you lost the most points, then scan your site again to see your new score.

How to improve your website's AI readiness

How to improve your website's AI readiness

Let AI crawlers in

Remove robots.txt rules that block GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot, check your firewall or CDN, and add a Content-Signal line like "search=yes, ai-train=no".
Publish an XML sitemap with lastmod dates, list it in robots.txt, return a 404 for missing pages, and redirect your homepage to HTTPS in one hop.
Put your main text in the HTML the server sends, and give every page a title, meta description, canonical tag and one H1.
Add Organization or LocalBusiness JSON-LD with sameAs links to your profiles. Most WordPress SEO plugins handle the basics.
Link about, contact and legal pages from your homepage, use mailto: or tel: links, and link a pricing page or add Offer schema.
Publish an llms.txt that sums up your site, serve Markdown when agents ask, and point to both with a Link header.
Expose search, bookings or purchases as WebMCP tools and publish an MCP Server Card.

AI visibility checker vs AI visibility tracker: Know what you're measuring first

A checker tests whether AI can access and read your website. A tracker counts how often AI tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity mention your brand. Start with a checker: AI can't cite a site it can't read.

AI Visibility Checker FAQs

What is an AI visibility checker?

An AI visibility checker tests whether AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity can access and understand your website. Hostinger's checker visits your site like an AI agent, runs more than 25 checks across seven categories, and gives you a score out of 100 with a fix for every issue.
Yes. The AI Visibility Checker is free to use. Paste your website address, run the scan, and you'll see your score out of 100, your grade, the result of every check and how to fix each issue, plus a ready-made prompt you can paste into an AI tool or send to your developer.
No. This tool checks whether AI can access and understand your website, not how often AI answers mention your brand. Mention tracking needs a different tool that runs prompts at scale. Access comes first, though: if AI crawlers can't read your pages, AI tools can't cite or recommend them.
The checker reads your robots.txt rules for the main AI crawlers, such as GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot from OpenAI, ClaudeBot from Anthropic and PerplexityBot. It also requests your homepage with an AI agent user agent to see whether a firewall or bot protection blocks it, even when robots.txt allows access.
Your score is out of 100 points across seven categories: crawl permission (20), readability (18), findability (16), structured meaning (14), commercial legibility (12), agent-native content (10) and agent interaction (10). Each check is worth a fixed number of points, and checks that can't apply are marked "Not checked".
The higher the better, and every point comes from a concrete fix. Aim to get full points in crawl permission, findability and readability first, because without them AI can't reach or read your site. Scores in agent interaction are low for most websites, as WebMCP and MCP Server Cards are still new.
The most common reasons are a robots.txt rule that blocks OpenAI's crawlers, a firewall or CDN that rejects bot traffic, and content that only appears after JavaScript runs. Many AI crawlers read the raw HTML and don't run scripts, so they may see an almost empty page. The scan shows which of these affects your site.
It depends on your goals. If you want AI tools to find, cite and recommend your site, allow search and user-triggered bots like OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and PerplexityBot. If you don't want your content used to train AI models, you can block training crawlers like GPTBot without disappearing from AI search.
A Content-Signal is a line in robots.txt that states how your content may be used once it's crawled, for example "search=yes, ai-train=no". It lets you allow AI search while opting out of model training. It doesn't technically block anyone, but it makes your preferences clear to AI companies.
llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of your website that gives AI tools a short summary of your site and links to your most important pages. It's a proposed standard rather than a requirement, but it takes minutes to add, and the checker scores both whether it exists and whether it's well-formed.
No. The checker looks at your homepage and the site-wide files AI agents rely on, such as robots.txt, your sitemap, llms.txt and your MCP Server Card. That gives a fast, consistent picture of how AI sees your site. Fixes like structured data and clear headings should then be applied across all your pages.
Search engines and AI agents look for different things. A site can rank well and still lack llms.txt, a Markdown version, structured business details, machine-readable contact information or agent protocols. Many large, well-known websites score low today, so a few fixes can put you ahead of bigger competitors.
Not quite. An SEO checker looks at how search engines crawl and rank your pages. An AI visibility checker, sometimes called an LLM SEO checker, looks at whether AI crawlers and agents can access, read and use your site. Basics like sitemaps and headings help both, but AI adds new needs like llms.txt.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI agents connect to tools and data, and an MCP Server Card tells agents what your server offers. WebMCP lets a web page expose actions, such as search or booking, that an AI agent in the browser can use directly. Both are optional for most websites today.
Start with the category where you lost the most points. Each failed check explains what we found and how to fix it, with a prompt you can copy into ChatGPT, Claude or your AI coding tool. Most fixes take minutes, such as adding a canonical tag or an llms.txt file. Then scan again.
